“Ruins of the old Mason City Brewery; built in 1873 and used as a brewery until 1882 when a prohibition amendment was added to the Iowa Constitution. Afterward, the building was used as a slaughterhouse, ice house, home, barn, and office. All that remains intact is the brewery cellar.” From an interpretive plaque on site.
