NY & VT Trip Day #6

Friday, May 10, 2024

On our final day of the trip we left Burlington and traveled down Routes 7 & 7A to Bennington, VT and then across the Hudson River into Troy, NY and ended in Albany to fly out the next morning.

We stopped at a number of quaint towns in VT along the day. This is Vergennes, VT.

Next stop was Middlebury, VT. Yet another typical New England town and fantastic old churches.

Photos from the very beautiful Middlebury College campus. On the left side is Middlebury Chapel and on the right is Munroe Hall. The architecture on this campus is wonderful.

Our final stop for the day was in Bennington, VT. I had visited here once before on a day-trip from college in Albany. I had memories of this monument and a local ice cream place we had visited back then. So, when I saw Bennington was on our route I had to stop in and see both places.

This is the Bennington Battle Monument. See the next image for more details.

The visitor’s center at the monument was closed, but walking around the grounds was very peaceful.

There is absolutely nothing special about this ice cream shop in Bennington, except a rather funny story from when I was there so many years ago. Too much to relay here, but it made me want to revisit it. All these years later, it looks just as I remember it back then. We had sat at the picnic table where those people are sitting to the right of the building. I had a vanilla cone just because… and it was NOT nearly as good as the one I had at the old Tastee Freeze back in Beekmantown, NY.
