Railroad bridge over the Mississippi River in Hastings, MN. In the summer, it is common to see this bridge raised to allow for sailboats and some of the taller motorboats to pass underneath. On occasion, we have seen a train cross over this bridge and it is an interesting site.

Hastings has built a very nice riverside park and pedestrian walkway along the Mississippi. Here is the stone Hastings sign with the new bridge over the Mississippi in the background.

Some interesting artwork in the Hastings riverside park. Looks like something from Rancho Deluxe in Mason City, IA.

Lock and Dam #2 is located in Hastings and is about a 1.5-mile walk from the railroad bridge downtown; this makes for a nice 3-mile round trip stroll along the river.

Stillwater, MN has a very pedestrian-friendly waterfront with walkways and this old bridge. With the construction of the new elevated bridge across the St. Croix River just south of this photo, they have converted this downtown bridge into a pedestrian-only walkway.

In the years before the construction of the new elevated St. Croix Crossing bridge, Lisa and I have driven over this smaller bridge many times. However, it is now a pedestrian-only crossing and it is a very popular spot for walking and biking. Like the Hastings railroad bridge, this one also raises to allow taller boats to pass underneath.

Glen Park Swinging Bridge in River Falls, WI.
“In the 1860’s the area below the swinging bridge was a popular site for outings. Down in the glen, several bridges were built to cross the South Fork of the Kinnickinnic River but were often washed out by floods. In 1925 the Minneapolis Bridge Company designed a suspension bridge high over the South Fork to connect Glen Park with Cascade Avenue. It was placed directly over the Cascade Mill and Dan, spanning 130 feet between the supports, costing $4,800.” From interpretive plaque on site.
