Wabasha, MN Riverboat Days Jul 30 Written By Kyle Traynor Saturday, July 30, 2022 On Saturday, July 30th, we drove over to Wabasha, MN to take in their Riverboat Days festival. Wabasha really does a great job at promoting itself with many different town-wide events throughout the year. We had never been to Riverboat Days before. There was a parade - which we didn’t see - but also some other family-friendly activities. One was the antique car display. They shut down the main street through town and lined it with all these fascinating antique and custom cars. Some of the cars, like this one, were marvelous restorations of actual production cars; others were some highly customized hot rods. Below are a series of photos of some of the fun and interesting cars.Fujifilm X-Pro3, 22mm, 1/250 sec, f/9, ISO 800MAP American Speed Company (SPEED 33)Of the custom hot rods, I think this roadster was my favorite.Fujifilm X-Pro3 22mm, 1/250 sec, f/9, ISO 1250MAP You can appreciate how heavily modified these beautiful hot rods are. Here, the “original” instrument cluster is surrounded by a leather interior that would put Mercedes to shame!Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/250 sec, f/9, ISO 1600MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 16mm, 1/250 sec, f/7.1, ISO 1250MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/60 sec, f/7.1, ISO 1000MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 22mm, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 250MAP As you can appreciate, there are a few “customizations/modifications” here. I rather doubt any looked like this off the production line!Fujifilm X-Pro3 17mm, 1/500, f/7.1, ISO 400MAP Vintage race car.Fujifilm X-Pro3 22mm, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 250MAP This old Ford Econoline really caught my attention because I remember my grandfather Traynor having one of these. His was the van, not the open bed in the back. But the blunt-nosed front end and the grill were iconic of the era.Fujifilm X-Pro3 20mm, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 500MAP These hot rods are just amazing. Her cleaning rags and shorts clearly have to match the paint scheme.Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 320MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/500, f/7.1, ISO 800MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 22mm, 1/500 sec, f/7.1, ISO 1250MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3, 22mm, 1/1000 sec, f/8, ISO 1250MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 13mm, 1/250 sec, f/8, ISO 160MAP After taking in the cars, we went for a stroll along the river and took some photos of the waterfront and flowers.Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/500 sec, f/9, ISO 160MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/500 sec, f/6.4, ISO 160MAP The bees were busy collecting.Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/500 sec, f/6.4, ISO 200MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/1000 sec, f/7.1, ISO 320MAP Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/1000 sec, f/4.5, ISO 160MAP Eye-to-eye!Fujifilm X-Pro3 24mm, 1/1000 sec, f/4.5, ISO 160MAP These two photos are my first attempt at infrared photography. I got an IR 830 filter for my 23mm f/2 prime lens. This filter blocks all light below 830 nm, which removes basically all visible light. What the camera “sees” is light from the infrared spectrum. These filters are VERY dark and thus the photos require long exposure times. Even with the bright mid-day sunlight, these shutter speeds were 10-20 seconds. Thus, you can notice a little motion blur in the photos. Also, there is definitely a “hot spot” in the center of the images, and this is because I put the IR filter over the top of my UV filter already on the lens. The UV filter coating is known to cause these “hot spots” when used with IR filters. I will be removing the UV filter next time. Again, just experimenting and learning the process. The images will get better with time - I promise. The compositions of these two images are nothing special, I just wanted to set up the tripod and give it a whirl to see where I am starting from. More to come….Fujifilm X-Pro3 23mm, 10 seconds, f/8, ISO 800. IR 830 nm filter.MAP There was a moderate breeze and you can really appreciate the motion blur in the trees as a result of the long exposure time. The infrared filter makes for a great contrast photograph and it gives the green colors a very unique white appearance. It will be fun to experiment with this more. I have a bunch more to learn about this, but I am looking forward to some fun and interesting opportunities.Fujifilm X-Pro3 23mm, 17 second, f/8, ISO 800. IR 830 nm filter.MAP Kyle Traynor
