Door County Trip, Day #5 Oct 12 Written By Kyle Traynor Thursday, October 12, 2023 Our first stop today was just up the road from our room in Ephraim, the Anderson Dock, where they have this interesting old building that is covered in graffiti.MAP We then drove all the way to the tip of the peninsula to Northport, where the ferry departs for Washington Island. Due to time constraints, we didn’t visit Washington Island on this trip, but that leaves us something for next time.MAP The Washington Island ferry. Next, we took at 2.5 mile hike at Newport State Park. Of all the hikes we took on this trip, this was by far the best. I significant portion of the hike was right along the shore of Lake Michigan and it made for some very nice views of the rocky shoreline. One portion of the beach was entirely made up of these tiny shells. There must have literally been billions of these shells. Some additional views of the shoreline at Newport State Park. Next was a stop and short hike at Cave Point County Park. The shoreline is made up of sheer cliffs where the waves of Lake Michigan crash against the shore. Over the years of erosion, the water has actually hollowed out “caves” under the cliffs. I put a 10-stop ND filter on and took some long exposure images of the crashing waves which gives the water an interesting look in this series of images. Kyle Traynor
