“The Old Fire Bell.
For 38 years this 1905 bell, in the belfrey above the old Fire Hall next door, was Madison Lake’s fire alarm. Two ropes through two pulleys clanged it swiftly. For the nine o’clock curfew a single rope tolled the hour by the village Marshal. The bell’s predecessor was a 36 inch circle saw blade mounted on the roof of the log jail one block north. A siren replaced the bell in 1943. This monument erected June 1984. Madison Lake Area Historical Society.”
